“Tatone” is the affectionate term for grandfather in Abruzzo, and Terra d’Aligi treats this wine like a cherished family member, giving it pristine treatment from budbreak to bottle, including winemaking practices--like extended oak aging--usually reserved reds with a much larger price tag.
The result is a Montepulciano that towers above its peers, with incredible aromas of ripe red fruit and baking spice that lead into a wine that’s perfect for weeknights at home, but special enough for white tablecloth affairs. This is so much more than an everyday value red--stock up while it lasts!
About the wine
Terra D’Aligi is a family-owned estate in the sunny Abruzzo region of Italy, and their interpretation of the area’s signature Montepulciano grape is anything but ordinary.
Their Tatone bottling is an homage to revered, wise grandfathers--and it’s treated with reverence from the chalk and clay soils of the vineyards through two years of extended aging. Made from 100% Montepulciano grapes, Tatone undergoes 24 months in large-format Slavonian Oak barrels to add spicy complexity to the wine’s characteristic red cherry and strawberry flavors. Then, Tatone is aged an additional three months in bottle before release. The estate’s “reserve” wine, Tatone is the rare age-worthy Montepulciano, but priced for pizza parties! Don’t let this bargain jewel get away!
