Wines of this caliber rarely surface, and almost never from South America, but the Tapiz Alta Malbec is unmatched in every sense of the word. Not only does this magenta-hued red hail from the Southern hemisphere’s unmatched Uco Valley appellation, but it’s guided from grape to glass by Jean-Claude Berrouet and Fabian Valenzuela of the iconic Chateau Petrus and globally-acclaimed Catena Zapata, respectively.
In its list of “Smart Buys”, Wine Spectator named 60 go-to wineries for excellence and affordability and Tapiz Alta is one of only 2 Argentine wineries on that esteemed list. Tapiz Alta is a Malbec that breaks the mold, and we’re bringing it to you at the best price to prove it!
About the wine
Jean-Claude Berrouet was head winemaker at Chateau Petrus and other Moueix properties in the Right Bank for more than forty years. He is considered one of the great living legends and a Master of Merlot. From vineyards originally planted by the no-expense-spared Kendall-Jackson team, Tapiz Alta Malbec is a beacon of high elevation winemaking with distinctly Argentine terroir.
100% handpicked and estate grown at 4,400 feet of elevation, Alta benefits from cool temperatures and a long growing season that give this Malbec subtle, mature tannins and beautiful structure suitable for extended aging--you just don’t get that for under C$50! The addition of France’s and Argentina’s best winemakers, plus consistent 94+ point critic scores only add to the pedigree of this limited-release Alta. A dream-come-true Malbec, the 2015 is a must-have that puts Argentine wine front and center on the world stage.
