Layers of aromatics including red plum, strawberry, graham cracker, peach, dried herbs, currants, and white pepper. Soft entry with medium weight that is fresh and supple. Building tannins with flavors of blackberry, quince and spiced cake.
About the wine
The Biale family moved to the outskirts of Napa after emigrating from Northern Italy. Beginning in the 1930's, Pietro began working with the Californian, pioneer winemakers' favourite varietal, Zinfandel.
With the commitment to produce leading Zinfandel, the team run by father and son Aldo and Robert Biale, use the same traditional farming and winemaking practices brought from Genoa.
Biale has become synonymous with California Zinfandel. Lovingly referred to as "little shop of Zins" and highly sought after by 'Zin geeks', Biale is a collector's dream come true! The single vineyard bottling give insight into microclimates and showcase amazing old vines.
The Grande Vineyard was planted by an immigrant from Venice, Theodosio Grande, in 1920

"Tasted after the original “black chicken” zin. At vineyard. More alcohol on the nose. Slightly spicier and tangy. 96 year old vines still going strong. This wine has promise but needs a few more years in the bottle to bring out its best." - Mark N.
"Another solid old vine zin. This one is more tannic with softer earth than the Monte rosso. Similar flavor profile otherwise with cherry, smoke, and earth, but more spice." - Steven S. 2014 vintage
