Washington Post Food Columnist, Dave McIntyre, noted the Lytton Springs as one of 5 “California Zinfandel you’ll want to drink right now”. While not labelled as a Zinfandel, this grape does makeup the majority of the blend. Ridge is an iconic producer in California, multiple 100 point wines, but also is renowned for their Zinfandels and this blend from the Lytton Springs property delivers on every angle. This wine just puts a smile on our face thinking about it...now it’s your turn!
About the wine
On of the secrets of Lytton Springs lies in the substrata. These deep gravelly soils are poor but drain extraordinarily well. Every summer these old vines are stressed to the max and eke out small highly concentrated Zinfandel of extraordinary density and vibrance. Hand picked at perfect ripeness --
The composition of the blend is very complementary and winemaker, John Olney, has created a complex, intriguing wine. Filled with rich notes of ripe strawberries, cherries and an underside of raspberry bush. The tannins are robust and we credit the Petite Sirah (16%) for that. We love the lush layers of fruit without unneeded over extraction. Drinking incredibly well now, we’re sure this Dry Creek Valley star will only develop over years in the cellar.

"Earthy blackberry...cherry, rich fruit, dark rich profile but not overdone, good balance of fruit, acidity and tannins." - Niven

"The 2016 Lytton Springs is a powerful, dense wine. Black cherry, plum, lavender, new leather, cloves, licorice and menthol flesh out. Deep, plush and richly textured, the 2016 Lytton Springs packs a real punch. The 23% Petite Sirah is felt in the wine's darkness and overall gravitas. There is more than enough richness and structure to support many years of fine drinking. What a gorgeous wine this is."
