Simply amazing! Forever a champion, Rahn’s 2011 showcases microscopic attention to detail in the vineyard with insane complexity in a Cab with a good 5 years left to live. At a fraction of the price of its cult competition, Rahn is a definite buy!
This Howell Mountain Cabernet has a serious sense of style with world-class intensity!
About the wine
Rahn Estate has history on Howell Mountain, and the family is quick to point out winemaking isn’t their second career—it’s their first, and only, passion.
The first subregion of Napa Valley, Howell Mountain remains a highly sought-after appellation, thanks to its incredible volcanic soils and high elevation vineyards. Full, direct sunlight above Napa’s fog gives these Cabernets a dark color and intense concentration that doesn’t exist elsewhere, leading to unique, age-worthy wines with a distinct sense of place.
Rahn’s devotion to Howell Mountain translates to the glass in wines that magically combine power and terroir winemakers spend careers trying to attain. The 2010 vintage was called “exceptional,” by Wine Spectator, and this Cab exemplifies the cool year with earthy undertones and refined tannins. After Rahn, you won’t mix Howell Mountain up with another Cabernet Sauvignon, ever.

"Exotic perfumes dance from the glass in Rahn’s Mountain selection, evoking memories of alluring gardens filled with jasmine, vanilla, and wild violets. ON the palate, ripe berry fruit collides with sweet herbs and granite minerality in a wine that’s a superb example of balance and restraint without being austere. Hat’s off to Rahn Estate on this one!"
