Under 300 cases of this exuberant Pinot Noir were ever bottled, and today it’s a starlet. A blend of four clones aged in French Oak, Poundstone brings ripe strawberry and raspberry aromas to the forefront in a red driven by soft tannins and intriguing notes of rose, vanilla, and clove. About the wine
The Poundstone winery may have been born just 11 years ago, but farming runs deep for proprietress Melody Meckfessel. Raised driving tractors and getting her hands dirty in Northern California, Poundstone is a homecoming story for the IT engineer who came back to the land. Together with winemaker Bruce Devlin, Poundstone sculpts artisanal wines from both the Napa and Sonoma sides of Carneros, where cool Pacific breezes create a perfect hamlet for Pinot Noir.
Devlin has experience on four continents, and brings decades of experience to the Poundstone endeavor, working with several prestigious growers in the region. The 2014 vintage was a dream for California vintners with warm weather leading to an exceptional harvest, and Poundstone’s wines are no exception. A blend of clones give this red inherent complexity, beautifully melding tart red berry flavors with hints of rose and sweet baking spice.
