The brain child of Massimo Piccini and a small lot of land, was the humble beginnings of this fantastic Bordeaux style blend from Bolgheri, Tuscany. Each and every year, Podere Sapaio continues to push the palate profile and deliver rock star wines we all dream of. While still a new kid on the block, the winery was only founded in 1999, Vopolo is a crowd pleaser and a collector's covet.
About the wine
Rich, luxurious, opulent...words that easily come to mind when we taste Vopolo. The Petit Verdot adds this depth of colour and flavour that we almost become addicted to. Easily drinkable now (with a slight decant) but tuck this gem away for some aging and you will not be disappointed.

"Fantastic wine for the price. Absolutely delicious. Good oak and tannin. Good acidity. Very well balanced. Would drink definitely again" Brandon E.
"As full body as it gets. The palate holds dark fruit such as plum, black cherry and oak on the finish. Young tannins with signs of strong potential development. Bolgheri seems to never disappoint." Maxim S.
"Wow! It keeps getting better! I believe this is the last bottle from the case:( I will now always keep a good Super Tuscan on hand. The dense fruit, dark color and characteristic terroir is fantastic with almost any food we throw at it, but homemade eggplant and chicken parm tonight, oofah!!" CT E.

"A very fresh and enticing nose of bright blueberries, newly picked blackcurrants, citrus, crushed stones, pressed violets, dried sage, ash and cedar. Full-bodied and ever so tight with firm, polished tannins punctuated by vibrant acidity. Long and taut on the finish. Drink in 2020."

"This blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot and 15% Petit Verdot is a very lively Tuscan red with great intensity, precision and long-lasting flavors. The 2016 Bolgheri Rosso Volpolo is balanced and bright, with notes of blackberry, black olive, sweet spice and cigar box. The wine ages in barrique for 14 months. There is some astringency at this early stage, but the wine should smooth out nicely. Some 90,000 bottles were produced."

"The black cherry and black currant flavors are accented by graphite and tobacco notes, beautifully displayed on the lush texture and backed by a well-integrated structure. Shows terrific balance, complexity and length. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot. Best from 2020 through 2033."
