Part of what makes Penfolds the greatest winery in Australia is their incredible stock of old vineyards. “Kalimna” is an awe-inspiring site that has produced unblended 97-99 point wines, and Bin 28 is the perfect entrée to the Kalimna style. Bin 28 is tiny production, as Penfolds separates their best lots to keep quality super-high. Dense, inky and suave Shiraz for serious contemplation!
About the wine
With winemaker Peter Gago at the helm, Australian icon Penfolds has asserted itself as the country’s greatest producer, and has forced many reviewers to admit they are among the very best in the world. It’s stunning given the winery’s vast holdings – and yet each and every wine they make is so finely crafted - from the transcendent Grange (multiple 100pts) to the wallet-friendly Koonunga Hill. Few labels are as sure a bet as Penfolds - but to really get the good stuff, it’s worth stepping up to the Bin Series. With Bin 28, one tastes a broad, inky Shiraz named in honor of the famous Kalimna Vineyard, as fine a site as Martha’s Vineyard or To-Kalon. In the 2015 vintage, the Bin 28 was the product of a clean, well-balanced vintage and produced pristine fruit with the Penfolds eye for selection.
