Established by the legendary Antinori family, Ornellaia is one of the most iconic Super Tuscans, joining Sassicaia, Solaia and Tignanello as the stuff of legend. Later, Ornellaia isolated a small portion of their vineyard and named the resulting wine “Masseto” – a multiple 100-point wine that has bested even Chateau Petrus in tastings. All of this pre-amble does no justice to the extraordinary quality of the wines made here, and it is accomplished with matter-of-fact diligence.

This is a profound and worthy alternative to Ornellaia itself. It’s a bit cocky, really – Ornellaia is so good they can make not one, but TWO wines better than the competition!

About the wine

Ornellaia – the name inspires reverent silence from wine lovers in every country. Part of the founding fathers of the Super-Tuscan movement, this phenomenal Cabernet blend marries the power of Oakville to the towering structure of a Paulliac. Then it adds a bit of sexy intrigue, like the best Brunellos. It’s an altogether breathtaking recipe, and one that’s been celebrated from the very beginning by critics and wine lovers alike. This may be Ornellaia’s “second wine,” but it easily matches up against Tignanello, Sassicaia and the world’s foremost names in Tuscan wine.

"From the house of Ornellaia, couldn’t fault it. Well balanced and fruity. This the second bottle and I’m sure there will most definitely be a third :)) highly recommended" Ron C.

"This is what we call a Super Tuscan! Elegant and classy, long and velvety finish. A blend of 4 great grapes (Merlot - C.S. - C.F. - P.V.), well rounded tannins, lively, fruitys smells and complex flavours including black fruits and sweet spices. A must try!" Serkan Ç.

"Deep ruby red color with purple highlights, nose of raspberry, cranberry and redcurrant, fresh and fruity palate with slightly woody notes, firm tannins, long and dry finish." Francesca J.

"An integrated, ripe red with currant, berry and light tobacco character. Medium to full body, silky tannins and a flavorful finish. Second wine of Ornellaia. Lovely now, but better in a year or two. Try after 2021."

"Deep, dark garnet color; plum appears on the plush nose before it joins blackberry on the smooth and rich palate. Luscious and fresh, it’s an exceptional value—a chip off the old block."

"The 2017 Le Serre Nuove dell'Ornellaia is plump, juicy and so seductive, with pretty floral and savory top notes that add a touch of freshness to balance things out. Medium in body and wonderfully inviting, Le Serre Nuove also has quite a bit of energy for the year. The Merlot was picked starting on August 24, which is very early, even within the context of modern-day warm vintages. Sweet pipe tobacco, cedar, licorice and mint nuances linger in the glass. This is such a pretty wine."

"A blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, this opens with aromas of violet, tobacco and green peppercorn. The savory, youthfully tense palate offers black plum, licorice, toasted oak and mocha alongside fine-grained tannins."
