With the release of this epic 2015 label, the legendary Wagner family has once again re-written the book on what a Santa Lucia Chardonnay wine should be. This spellbinding, golden-hued Chard boasts the perfect balance of bright acidity , tropical fruitiness, and full-bodied pleasure. It’s a complete package that rubs shoulders with Kistler, Beringer, Mount Eden, and other heavyweights. It’s also a package you’ll have no problem emptying
We all fell asleep in French class. Had we stayed away, it might have been evident that Mer Soleil is the Wagner family’s brilliant ode to what a California Chardonnay should be —it combines the French words for sea (mer) and sun (soleil). There’s a good reason for this: Winemaker extraordinaire Charlie Wagner II uses the just-near-enough-to-the-coast terroir of Santa Barbara County’s Santa Lucia Highlands to craft a incomparable medium-to full-bodied Chard that virtually redefines the powers of this popular varietal.
It’s not a butter bomb or a liquid hunk of wood; Wagner lovingly ages the wine in French oak barrels for 12 to 15 months and runs just part of the juice through malolactic fermentation to reduce the wine’s famed notes to gentle hints. The anticipation of these notes is set in motion by the golden-hued wine’s aromatics, which bathe the senses in a wash of citrus blossom and fresh, tropical pineapple, with a subtle smidgen of vanilla. A rather ephemeral palate dance of oak and butter is augmented by ripe fruit flavors like white peach, bound together by a vivacious acidity that lingers on the finish.

"A good, tropical style, bold Chardonnay. Apple, pear, mango, vanilla and butter. Creamy palate, nice minerality at the finish." Germano C.
"Awesome! One of my all time Chardonnays! Fruit is grown in Santa Lucia Highlands bear Monterey, CA. This is an Oaked Chardonnay with notes of apricot, melon, honeysuckle, and a buttery finish. Pairs well with a Salmon or Steelhead trout. This Wagoner family wine is highly recommended!!!" Zachary B.
