L’Arringatore puts the “Super” in Super Tuscan...though soon we might be calling these powerful reds “Super Umbrians” if Goretti has their way!

The Goretti family has been a force in Italian winemaking for 100 years, so it’s no surprise that their version of the Napa-meets-Italy style is a knockout. Dominated by Sangiovese, the ‘13 bursts with ripe red cherry fruit accented by aromas of tobacco, leather, and savory baking spices. In short, this full-bodied red is irresistible. (If you want the long version, scroll through its treasure trove of 550 A+ ratings from across the globe!)

About the wine

Long one of Umbria’s best wineries, the 3rd and 4th generation of Goretti is expanding the family business from classical Sagrantino wines to trendy Super Tuscan-style reds and beyond! Relying on a unique combination of traditional methods and cutting edge research, the family has outpaced the competition and today’s deal is a rare (and delicious) shot at an uncommon blend.

L’Arringatore is the Goretti take on the Super Tuscan wines that blend Sangiovese and other indigenous Italian grape varieties with international reds including Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Goretti’s twist leans heavily on Sangiovese, with Merlot and the native Ciliegiolo. The result is a full-bodied, elegant wine that’s a veritable explosion of flavor. Ripe, red cherry fruit meets cocoa powder, leather, and black pepper in the 2013 bottling. Soft, fine tannins round out the long finish which makes L’Arringatore hard to cellar now, but this wine will easily improve over the next few years...What are you waiting for?!
