Lord have mercy!  Glen Carlou’s masterful Chardonnay has tasters questioning how such a robust and complex white can be had for such a price. Best not to ask too many questions – please and thank you! Pour this blind for your fussiest friends and watch them rattle off the names of top Burgundy!

About the wine

When it comes to a smokin’ value like this, it’s best to keep things quick and to-the-point. Glen Carlou is an unrivalled master of robust, masculine Bordeaux blends and Chardonnays and they like to put out massive wine under their Grand Classique label in an effort to pleasantly surprise drinkers who give them a shot. Just like California’s golden run that started in ’12, lovers of these rich and meaty reds have enjoyed an embarrassment of riches. This well-priced Baby Bordeaux has garnered Wine Enthusiast’s Editor’s Choice designation on three different occasions, signifying “wines are those that offer excellent quality at a price above our Best Buy range, or a wine at any price with unique qualities that merit special attention.” Best of all, this incredible bargain is even more tasty at the sensational deal offered today. A case of Grand Classique for the price of a bottle of disappointing “prestige wine” – that’s a trade we’ll take any day of the week.

“The wines are uniformly brilliant. In fact, this is one of the strongest ranges of South African wines that I’ve tasted through.” – Jamie Goode, contributor to World of Fine Wine, Decanter and Sommelier Journal

"Showcasing golden chardonnay color, lots of spiced pear, baked apple, Meyer lemon, mandarin zest and fleshy yellow fruits. This has a medium plus weight with fair tension echoing the palate on the finish, with hints of butterscotch. This is showing it's grace at the moment. Sure to be a dinner party surprise if you pair with the right dish…Roasted White Wine Chicken Breast, Seabass en Papillote, White Seafood Bouillabaisse."
