Location, location, location. We hear it's a top 3 make or break and Castello di Bolgheri has it in spades. Nestled beautifully not only in the breathtaking Tuscan landscape, this winery is located between Sassicaia and Ornellaia! Does it get any better? The obvious answer is no.
The greatest Super Tuscan you never knew existed is here. Made with the same family-owned intentions as Sassicaia (there might be a shared bloodline), Castello di Bolgheri's Superiore 2016 is highly collectable and cellarable. Only produced in the best years, quality is not compromised even an ounce.
"Castello di Bolgheri is considered to be the top winery in its production area. With impressive reliability, this property has repeatedly produced best results in recent years. Finally, the persistent search for the optimal interpretation of a great terroir pays off." Gambero Rosso, 3 Biccheri (highest rating)

"Fantastic wine. Very elegant. Tobacco, concentrate fruit. It will get better with time." Tony V.
"WOW big bold powerful nose! Yummy dark fruits and velvety. Dusty tannins. Still young but fantastic and needs a lot of time to breathe." Murali N.

"Don't underestimate the intensity and generosity of the 2016 Bolgheri Superiore (a blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Cabernet Franc). The wine delivers generous tones of dark fruit, exotic spice and tobacco. On first examination, the palate appears to be more streamlined than it really is. However, it steadily takes on volume and girth as it warms in the glass, adding extra intensity and textural layering. Some 30,000 bottles were made, and this is no doubt the best Bolgheri Superiore I have yet tasted from Castello di Bolgheri."

"A plush Bolgheri that shows lots of dark plums, cherry compote, vanilla and eucalyptus. Despite the initial, blockbuster impression, the palate is very polished, thanks to dialed-in tannins. Long but tangy finish. Drink from 2024."

"Made with 75% Cabernet Sauvignon and 25% Cabernet Franc, this boasts aromas of black-skinned berry, vanilla and Mediterranean brush. The juicy balanced palate doles out ripe black currant, licorice, tobacco and white pepper alongside fine-grained tannins. Drink now–2025."

"The vineyards of this estate face the sea with a westerly exposure, an incredibly beautiful view from the Bolgherese road on a quite calcareous soil. The style here is pretty classic, sometimes more austere as in 2006, yet balanced in this vintage. Crimson in colour, it has a restrained nose of pencil lead, pepper and chocolate over brambly fruit flavours, supported by a firm palate with structured tannins and a chalky finish."
