"...a nice balance of earth and fruit."

The chalky limestone soils of Rioja don’t make wine-growing easy. Instead, the poorly draining soils force the vines to struggle, eventually yielding grapes that are complex in flavour and intensely coloured, thanks to long days in the harsh Spanish sun. The 1808 Valcavada is the product of that painstaking farming, and winemaker Jenaro Fernández wouldn’t have it any other way.

About the wine

Bright crimson and cherry-scented, this young wine was barely kissed with six months in oak, keeping it solidly medium-bodied and refreshing. Notes of dried strawberry, cherry, tobacco and crushed herbs mingle in a wine with moderate tannins. An insane value, the 1808 is a Tempranillo you won’t want to miss!

"Natural to the bone. Very balanced, could go well with pork neck or iberico. Or just as the wine before the bed bugs bite. Earth and mushrooms to the palate, black currant (mild)." —Jussi P.

"Definitely needs to breathe for a while. Tart cherries and strawberries. Light tannins, light body. Pleasant undertones and nice finish. Great price point." —Warren K.
