On one hand, the Wagner family absolutely knocks it out of the park with Caymus, Mer Soleil and Belle Glos. On the other hand, there's never enough to go around! "Dairyman" is unquestionably one of the greatest vineyards for Pinot Noir, but 2017 was anything but a bumper crop. With limited quantities we're left wishing we had more!
About the wine
Dairyman Vineyard was bathed hot summer days in 2017, balanced with cooler nights allowing the grapes to rest. Joe Wagner obliged the fruit’s desires with early-morning harvest to keep the grapes cool, and the results of his intuition created a bright crimson masterwork defined by fantastic structure and silky, sensual tannins. Ripe boysenberry and black cherry appear prominently on the nose, accompanied by nuances of baking spices, dill and rootbeer. These pleasing aromas seamlessly segue to abundant fresh cherry, warm strawberries, and ripe cranberry, which are tempered ever so slightly by the presence nutmeg and vanilla. A well-rounded mouthfeel transitions the expressions to a delightful mix of savoury and sweet, as cedar, cocoa powder, fig jam guide you to an everlasting finish.

"The Belle Glos Dairyman RRV continues Joey's Wagner's legacy with his 'outside of the box' winemaking approach that continues to jostle the industry. Intensely dark, and not just for Pinot Noir, the grape varietal takes a wild dark turn in Wagner's capable hands. Rich black cherry, ripe red plum, blackberry-raisin jam, with masculine characteristics or dried herbs usually saved for Cab and Zin lovers. While many critics ratings remain timid and speculative of Wagner's ways, it's hard not to take notice. The consuming public has voted a big thumbs up, and it's hard not to agree. Kudos"
