“I love Solengo and 2017 does not disappoint.”
James Suckling

Solengo, is a famous Super-Tuscan you've maybe never heard of. Fear not, we have thoroughly tasted and hold with high regard!

Developed by the legendary oenologist, Giacomo Tachis, Solengo (which means "lone wild boar") is a perfect recipe of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Sangiovese. Giacomo's infinite knowledge on the "Super Tuscan" style comes from being intimately involved and the creation of the other greats in the category - Sassicaia, Tignanello and Solia, to name a few!

About the wine

Found in the south west region of Brunello di Montalcino, Argiano is steeped with a long history of winemaking excellence. Continuing traditional viticulture under new ownership, the property is a mixture of vineyard, olive grove and woodland. And if you should be so lucky, a villa is situated just perfectly, providing the perfect Tuscan getaway.

"Argiano is one of the most important estates in Montalcino. It is located in the southwest quadrant and sees most of its vineyards at 300 meters above sea level, on a flat plateau with beautiful views and a protected microclimate. The Amiata mountain in the distance blocks much of the incoming bad weather... Since 2014, there have been many important changes at Argiano. A new underground winery is complete and is used solely for the production of top wines Solengo and Brunello di Montalcino. The Sangiovese aging regime has moved from French barrique to large oak casks. The estate recently added seven new hectares of Sangiovese, planted according to a strict mapping of micro zones. Argiano started organic farming in 2012 and earned its certificate [in 2016]." - Monica Larner, Wine Advocate (February 2017)

"I love Solengo and 2017 does not disappoint. It is powerful with concentrated dark fruit aromas and flavours such as blackberry and black currant. It has some oak character with traces of vanilla. Tannins are present but not overwhelming." Jesper

"Wow deep tannin, dark berries and a hint of oak. Makes you think of excellent Medoc for the tannin and of Napa for the hint of oak. Super Tuscan." Hiroyuki H.

94-95 points, James Suckling
"A focused and tight red with a currant, blackberry and mineral character. Medium to full body with tight and pretty tannins. Shows class in this vintage."

95+ points, Wine Advocate (v2016)
"A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (50%), Petit Verdot (25%), Merlot (20%) and Sangiovese (5%), the 2016 Solengo is a terrific wine and I enjoyed my sample down to the very last drop that I coaxed from the bottle with happy enthusiasm. This is a full-bodied red (but not in an exaggerated manner) with plump and fruit-forward aromas of dark cherry, blackberry, plum, spice and sweet tobacco. The wine is balanced with excellent depth and mouthfeel momentum. I highly recommend this wine from both the 2015 and 2016 vintages, which are both terrific. Some 25,000 bottles were made."
