Pierre Seillan has established himself among the most famous winemakers in the world. The winemaking genius behind Verite's 100 point wines, Pierre ventures into Italy with this Super Tuscan which balances the ripe richness of estate fruit with a solid back bone worthy of cellaring. Arcanum is undeniably among the most interesting red wines coming from Italy.
Arcanum is Italian for secret or mysteries and this wine has both!
This Italian star does a bait and switch with your palate. If you didn't know better you would swear this wine was from the right bank of Bordeaux.
We definitely recommend buying more than one. This will knock the socks off any dinner guest!
Intense aromas of sage, rosemary and leather leap out of the glass accompanied by baskets of blackberries, raspberries and black currants. Layers of lush fruit, balanced by minerality balances out the palate.
About the wine
The Jackson family purchased the 2500 acre Tenuta di Arceno estate located in the Chianti Classico region in 1994, and devoted 223 acres to wine production.
With its diverse soils and rolling hill topography, the estate's vino production has been primarily focussed on producing Cabernet Franc and Bordeaux-style blends, which flourish in the Mediterranean climate of this Tuscan vineyard.
Valadorna is an exquisite blend of Merlot, Cab Franc, Cab Sauv; this wine presents with complex aromas of dark fruits followed by deep, rich flavours of brambly fruit, warm spices and silky tannins.

"Saturday night vibes This Merlot driven Super Tusc always delivers and like me, only gets better with age..."
"Wonderful Toscana with fruit, spice and a finish that smoothly fades from a bit of mineral. Great wine with steak, big cheeses and a lone with friends and some bread, sausage."

"The 2012 Valadorna is 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon from the Castelnuovo Berardenga comune. This is a dark and impenetrable wine with thick concentration and ripe fruit flavors. The two Cabernet grapes come out on top, and the wine delivers a heavy load of ripe fruit, garden herb and rosemary. This a ripe, bold and super opulent red wine from Tuscany that could pair with savory roasted lamb with mint sauce."

"Valadorna is made under the eve watchful eye of viticulturist and winemaker Pierre Seillan, who first worked with cabernet franc more than forty years ago on his family’s estate in Armagnac. From there he moved to the Loire, and then Bordeaux for two decades, before arriving in California in 1997. Seillan is big on tradition, allowing him to work seamlessly with his Italian crew at Arcanum. The result is a well-aged merlot dominated blend that takes your breath away. Ripe savoury black cherry, with violets, sweet pipe tobacco and that characteristic Bolgheri resin/ash/dried herb nose that makes this succulent, mineral red a pleasure to drink glass after glass. Decadently juicy and opulent, this is a delicious bottle of wine. The blend is 70/20/10 merlot, cabernet franc and cabernet sauvignon, aged twelve months in 70 percent new French oak. The fruit is mostly a selection from the Valadorna and Capraia blocks, located on the cooler part of the estate, and which produce the winery's most complex wines."

"Aromas of almonds and dark berry and chocolate follow through to a berry and chocolate character. There's plenty of walnut too. Soft and velvety texture. Voluptuous. Drink now or hold."
